How to not close your eyes or squint during your photography session
In this blog, I will explain why we blink and how to keep your eyes from closing and squinting during your photography session because nothing ruins a photograph like closed eyes!
The reason why we blink and squint is because it is a reflex to protect and to lubricate our eyes. We naturally blink about every 6 seconds or so for lubrication and we squint or close our eyes when we are exposed to harsh or bright lighting.
How to not close your eyes:
Some cameras have a pre-flash on their cameras to avoid red eyes. If you turn off the pre-flash which makes you blink, this should help.
Close your eyes and have the photographer count to 3. On the count of 3 you will open your eyes and they will hit the shutter to get the shot.
Blink on the count of 2 and then when you open your eyes on 3, the photographer will get the shot.
In this image we had Kai facing the sun which was super bright and used the 1, 2, 3 open, click method!
How to reduce squinting:
Have your subject look away with their whole face from the camera and then look back at the camera lens.
You can have your subject look down with their eyes only and then back up to the lens. This helps to relax the eyelids.
You can also have them close their eyes and open on the count of 3.

Ideas on how to get your pup better at posing for pictures
In this blog I will talk about how to get your dog better at posing for pictures.
Get them to sit or down:
First you will want to work on the command “sit”. The sooner you start training the better, however, it's better late than never. Never force a dog to sit because you could injure them. It takes time and tons of patience. Also, don't forget the treats if your dog is food motivated or toys if they prefer those! Another option is teaching them “down” as in laying down. Beau, my pup, personally loves to lay down in his photographs! So I go with the flow and let him.
How to work on sit and down:
Standing in front of your pup as you ask your pup to sit, place the treat in front of their nose and then move your hand in a straight line as if you were going to place the treat on their back. Most dogs will naturally drop their butt to the ground. Keep your treats on hand and practice every time your dog comes near you or for 15 minutes a day. Remember do not force the sit because you don’t want to hurt your pup. After they are sitting, use the word “free” to break the command of “sit”. If you want them to “down”, once they have mastered “sit”, put the treat in front of their nose and lower it to the ground. If they don’t go to the ground, run it along their chest towards their belly and this should help them with lowering themselves to the ground! When I have worked with my pups in the past I would have them “sit” to get their "new" reward once the food was no longer needed. They would have to sit to go outside, get petted, get their food, get their leash on, or other "reward".
How to get them to look at you:
Next you will want to get your dog to look at you. I use the word “look” to get Beau’s attention. Dogs really don’t like to make eye contact as this can be seen as aggressive and can make them get a little uncomfortable. Using a cell phone will not look like a big daddy professional camera which looks like a huge eyeball staring back at them so it might be a little easier for them to look at it! This is why I let dogs get used to the camera before I start a session with them. Either way, use patience and start out with baby steps. Say “look” and then treat them when they make eye contact with you, then use your cell phone “look” and treat, and if you have a big daddy camera use the command “look” and treat them. I often will put the treat near the target I want them to look at and go from there.
Remember practice and patience:
When you first start working with your pup, I would work in an environment with no distractions. Then you will start to slowly introduce your dog to distractions while using your commands. You want your dog to have fun with his training sessions. Don’t get discouraged if your pup doesn’t get things right away or can’t do something you are asking of them. It can take time and just like humans, dogs have their days when they don’t want to behave! Please see my image below….lol! If you get frustrated, they will sense your frustration and get anxious. So relax and remember no shot is worth stressing yourself or your dog out over! Sometimes getting them to stand and look is the next best thing. I even think them “misbehaving” below made this picture adorable! So have fun and cherish this time you have with your pup!

Windemere Headshot Photographer; A day with Jangi
Pre-Session
Jangi reached out because she needed some headshots for her website. We spoke about what she was looking for in her headshots and how she wanted to be portrayed. We discussed the location and what would happen during the session. She decided on 2 outfits for the photo session. At the end of our talk, we set the date, time, and location and then I sent her over the paperwork to approve.
The Session
The day of the session I met her over at her house because we were going to take images at the local park and dock in Windemere, FL by her home. We shot later in the afternoon so we could get the golden sun and soft shadows. We were able to make use of the bench, railing, and beautiful greenery around the local area.
Post-Session
After the session, I went to work on editing her photographs. Once the images were done, I sent her an online gallery to view her images. She went through and picked the images she wanted to use for her website. Once she let me know which images she wanted, I pulled them for the final touch ups. Once I had the final touches complete, I let her know they were back in the online gallery for her to download.

Winter Garden Headshot Photographer; A day with Lucy
Pre-Session
Lucy reached out because her employer wanted her to have an updated headshot and she wanted some images for herself. We spoke about what she was looking for in her headshots and her personal images. We discussed what would happen during the photography session such as picking the location. We decided on downtown Winter Garden. After our discussion, we finalized the date, time, and location and then I sent her over the paperwork to approve.
The Session
The day of the session we met over at the SOBO Art Gallery and took a few pictures near the gallery. Afterwards, we walked over towards the interactive splash fountain. We stopped and took some pictures by the parking garage and the old brick building next to it. We also took some pictures on the biking trail. We then took some photographs in the fountain and had a blast!
Post-Session
After the session, I went to work on editing her photographs for her. Once the images were done, I sent her an online gallery to view her images. She went through and picked the images she wanted. Once she let me know which images she wanted, I pulled them for the final touch ups. Once I had the final touches complete, I let her know they were back in the online gallery for her to download.

Mount Dora Headshot Photography; A day with Loretta and her team
Pre-Session
Catherine reached out for Loretta because her and her team needed some updated headshots. We spoke about what she was looking for in their headshots. We discussed how they wanted a lake and palm fronds in their images. We picked Trimble Park in Mount Dora, Florida for their session. After we spoke, we set the date, time, and location and then I sent her over the paperwork to approve. We did have to reschedule the session multiple times due to weather.
The Session
The day of the session we took photos throughout the park. We met over by the restrooms at the end of the park. We were not able to get the lake images we were hoping for due to the wind. This is one of the difficulties when photographing near the water. We did get some palm fronds and other great greenery backgrounds.
Post-Session
After the session, I went to work on editing their photographs for them. Once the images were done, I sent them an online gallery to view their images. The last step will be to pick the images and then I will pull them to put the final touches on them. Lastly, I will put them back in the online gallery to be downloaded.

High School Senior Photographer; Clermont, FL; The Ross Graduate
Pre-session
Esilda and I spoke on the phone about getting imagery of her child who was graduating with dual enrollment. She reviewed the packages offered and she opted for the Basic package. She wanted me to speak with her son about the session, so I spoke with her son about what types of images he wanted and the location of the photo session. We decided we would go back to Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, FL. He liked it because it wasn’t a very busy place and we decided on doing some images in the field this time to change it up. Esilda wasn’t sure about doing the same location again as we did last time so we changed the location to the Clermont Historic Village Museum.
The Session
We met for an afternoon session. We took images around the museum buildings and over in Victory Point! We had fun walking around the buildings and taking a variety of poses with the different backdrops in this area. I was able to get some genuine smiles out of Kai by joking a bit with him!
Post-session
About 2 weeks later we met online for the design and ordering session. We knew prior to our meeting we were going to be looking for 10 images. First, we took time to enjoy the images with the picture video presentation. Afterwards we went through and picked out the images they wanted to have for their keepsakes and they loved the video presentation of the images.

Important items to bring on your photo session
You have decided to do a photography session and you need help preparing for your session! Have no fear because I’m here to help get all set! I would suggest making a list of all the items you need to bring for your photography session before you head to your session. Some people get nervous and knowing ahead of time the items you need will help you to be more relaxed the day of your photo shoot!
Some common items to bring would be:
Make-up, brush, mirror, and hair ties
Accessories such as hats (wear for the last shots unless you plan on wearing it the whole time), jewelry, sunglasses
Bring a second outfit, if needed
Any props you want in your shots
Small towel (It gets hot in Florida and you can blot the sweat away.)
Something to drink like water (Drinks with color can stain your teeth or clothing.)

Tips on how to be more relaxed during photo session
Today I want to share with you about how to be more relaxed during your photography session. The first step is to talk with your photographer and have an idea of what you want to accomplish during the session. Basically, having a plan will set your mind at ease. The more you prepare for the session, the less stress you will have during the session.
Make sure you talk with your photographer about what you will be wearing. I talk with my clients about what they will wear for the session. I often get pictures of outfits all the time and I love helping my clients get the right outfit. We often plan the outfits based on what look you want to accomplish. For families, you may be looking at making pictures for keepsakes such as a wall art collection or album. This will lead you to know what you want to wear during the session to compliment your house. For business professionals, we may look at sporting your brand colors in the session and looking at what colors spark which emotions. I say the number one rule with clothing is make sure it is something you feel comfortable in because if you are comfortable it will show in your images. A great idea is if you have children is to get them involved with the planning! Have them help pick out their outfits and give them choices. For example, do you want to wear this red shirt or this blue shirt?
I work with families with and without furbabies. When working with 2 legged babies and 4 legged babies, I have found it is best to let go of what will or won’t happen at your session! Life is an adventure! Remember to giggle, laugh, and go with the flow. This should be an event you are looking forward to and not dreading! I will help guide you through the session and let you know what we need to do to accomplish the shot!
Lastly, this is important for before and during the session. I would make sure all are on board and involve them in the process. Your attitude towards the photography session will show in your images. If you are stressed, this vibe will go to everyone else and it will show in the images! I have seen this in family and professional headshot portraits.

Family Photography; A day with The Ross Family: Clermont, FL Photographer
Pre-session
Esilda and I spoke on the phone about getting imagery of her children. We spoke about the different shots she wanted to get during the session and we talked about the location. We decided we would go to the stunning wooded area of Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont, FL. Her main goal was creating wall art for their home. She wanted multiple 8 x 10's for her walls. Normally, I show people what their wall art looks like on their walls before they purchase it. However, she knew which wall she was adding these images too. We did discuss albums and vivid metal wall art and she said the multiple 8x10s would work great for her needs.
The Session
We met for an afternoon session. We took images out near the lake! We had fun walking the big path by the lake and taking a variety of poses with the different backdrops in this area. We giggled about bird poop and even got a little dirty. The great thing is we laughed and had fun throughout our session. I love it when families feel at ease in front of the camera! Our main concern was the rain, however, it held out until the end of the session!
Post-session
About 2 weeks later we met online for the design and ordering session. We knew prior to our meeting we were going to be looking for 5 images. First, we took time to enjoy the images with the picture video presentation. Afterwards we went through and picked out the images they wanted to have for their keepsakes. She invested in wall art and digital images.

Acting Headshot Photo Session: Clermont, FL Acting Headshot Photographer
Pre-Session
Sue reached out because her daughter needed some updated acting headshots. We spoke about what she was looking for in her headshots and she sent me an example of her last headshot. We discussed what would happen during the photography session such as the space I would need to set up my lights and the wardrobe changes/looks. Next, we set the date, time, and location and then I sent her over the paperwork to approve.
The Session
The day of the session we verified if we had enough space in the living room. After seeing the space, I let her know it was perfect and I popped up my portable studio in her back room. I needed a 10 X 10 area to set up my backdrop and lights. At first my lights were having some issues and after closing the blinds we were able to get rid of the reflecting light which was affecting my flashes sensors. We went with three different styling looks. We took some images with her in a ponytail, hair down, and a variety of different outfits.
Post-Session
After the session, I went to work on editing her photographs for her and the family to view. Once the images were done, I sent her an online gallery to view her images. The family went through and picked the images they wanted to use for her acting headshots. Once Sue let me know which images she wanted, I pulled them for the final touch ups. Once I had the final touches complete, I let her know they were back in the online gallery for her to download.

6 things your pet should avoid over the holidays
1. Eating to much
I know we all want to give our pets some treats over the holidays, however, too much over eating could get them sick. You can let your guest know right off the bat, please don’t give my furbaby extra treats. It is important to know the rules to keep your baby feeling great! If you do decide to let your furbaby have some treats, make sure it is plain meat and/or veggies approved by a vet.
2. Bones
In ancient times we knew dogs ate bones and pretty much what us humans ate. However, now we know bones can cause damage to our pup. Bones can splinter, shatter teeth, and cause other injuries to our pups. Make sure you properly dispose of them to keep your furbaby safe!

3. Trash
I don’t know about you but I had to have a bungee cord on my trash can to keep my one pup out of the trash! There are lots of dangers which can be encountered in the can! First off, a dog could ingest toxic food. Secondly, they could swallow string, get into broken glass, or other unsafe items. Please make sure to keep a lid on it.
4. Alcohol
Did you know an ounce of liquor can be deadly to our furbabies? Keep glasses of open alcohol out of reach for furbabies and the non-furry one’s too!

5. Ice cream/Milk
A little bit of these items will probably not upset your pups stomach, however, if your dog is super sensitive it could! I wouldn’t risk having an episode of diarrhea! That will not be fun for you or your pup!
6. Sweets and Chocolate
No chocolate or candy! It can cause issues for your pup by making them obese, get an upset stomach, and other serious health issues. They can get diabetes too.

Acting Headshot Photo Session with Sarah: Montverde, FL Acting Headshot Photographer
Pre-Session
Sarah reached out because she was wanting to get some acting headshots. She was about to go on a new adventure and go for some acting roles. We met in person since we both live in the same small town together. We went over how she wanted her images taken with the look she wanted and the color of the backdrop. We discussed what would happen during the photography session such as the space I would need to set up my lights and the wardrobe changes/looks. Next, we set the date, time, and location and then I sent her over the paperwork to approve.
The Session
The day of the session we verified if we had enough space in the guest bedroom for my set up. After seeing the space, I let her know it was perfect and I popped up my portable studio in her back room. I needed a 10 X 10 area to set up my backdrop and lights. The first half of the session we did a lot of the poses she wanted specifically and then towards the second half of the session I was giving her direction for other poses.

After the session, I went to work on editing her photographs for her to view. Once the images were done, I sent her an online gallery to view her images. She went through and picked the images she wanted to use for her acting headshots. Once she let me know which images she wanted, I pulled them for the final touching of softening her skin a little. Once I had the final touches complete, I let her know they were back in the online gallery for her to download and use for her purposes.

Stained glass Product Photography Session: Product Photographer, Montverde, FL
Pre-session
Pastor Linda and I spoke about this beautiful piece of stained glass artwork she had created. She wanted a picture of it to use for logo purposes for the church. We had our meeting in person and I was able to see her piece of artwork prior to taking images of it. We discussed our date, time, and what would happen during the photography session.
The Session
For the product session, we met in the fellowship hall and I set up my lights. While I was setting up Pastor Linda cleaned the stained glass. This step of cleaning the piece before taking the photograph saves time in the editing room as well as keeping me from having to make unnecessary changes to the artwork. I also wiped it down with a lens cloth afterwards to make sure we had no lint on it. This piece was a very highly reflective piece and I had to set up the lights just right to not cause any reflections on them. The back window was causing a small glare on the stained glass piece and I stood up to block the reflection with my body. I used a napkin to diffuse the flash which was controlling my two remote flashes on umbrellas. Set up took us about 45 minutes to get the piece so it wouldn’t fall and was positioned correctly for the camera. We captured both sides of the artwork so she could pick between which one she liked better.
Post-session
I was able to get the editing done in a week and sent it over via an online gallery. When I blocked the light during the session, I ended up in the artwork when photographing one side of the work. I had to photoshop myself out of one of the men. During post production, I extracted and cleaned up all the edges so the pastor would be able to maneuver her image easier for a logo in the future.

A day with The Goldsmith Family: Lake Wales, FL Photographer
Pre-session
Amanda and I spoke on the phone about getting imagery of her and her family. We spoke about the different shots she wanted to get during the session and we talked about the location. We decided we would go to the gorgeous Bok Towers in Lake Wales, FL. Her main goal was creating wall art for their home. She wanted one signature piece for their household. Normally, I show people what their wall art looks like on their walls before they purchase it. However, she knew they were moving soon and we were going to make decisions off a house she hadn’t seen yet!. She also looked over the albums and let me know she would think about them.
The Session
Amanda loves Bok Towers and we met for an afternoon session. We took images out near the tower and in the nearby gardens! We had to move quickly as the little one wasn’t game for photographs which is perfectly normal. In the future, I would suggest if you are working with a little one you pick your one maybe two location spots in the park to get all the images done quickly. We attempted more this day and both agreed when working with little one’s you need to not move around as much.
Post-session
About 2 to 3 weeks later we met online for the design and ordering session. We knew prior to our meeting we were going to be looking for wall art and possibly an album. First, we took time to enjoy the images with the picture video presentation. Afterwards we went through and picked out the images they wanted to have for their keepsakes. She invested in a 16 x 20 vivid metal piece of wall art, the contemporary album, and digital negatives.

How to display your wall art using 1 to 3 pictures in your home
In this post we will discuss how to display wall art using 1, 2, and 3 pieces of wall art for your home. The first step is deciding which wall we want to use as your canvas. From there, we will pick the images you want for your wall and start to create the look and feel you want for your home.
Location of your Artwork:
Artwork is there to add personality, emotions, and balance to your home. It is important to give some thought to the placement so it adds to your home and not detract. I would suggest placing your artwork over the sofa, bed, fireplace, table, desk, or any wall you are ready to spruce up. Remember you can also place artwork on a desk, table, or shelves.
Artwork over the sofa:
The sofa in your living room, play room, or Florida room makes a great focal point for wall art.
Artwork over the bed, table or desk:
Another idea is using a bed, table, or desk as the focal point of various rooms. Having a beautiful piece of artwork in the room can add some pizzazz to your room.
Artwork over the fireplace:
When you walk into a room with a fireplace it already creates a great focal spot in the room. Why not add more charisma to the room by artwork hanging on the fireplace or placing the artwork directly on the mantle.
Artwork on your desk, table, or shelves:
Another idea is having table top pieces of artwork of the ones you love on your desk, table, or shelves.
Working with 2 pieces of wall art:
You can have your wall art side by side, stacked on top of each other, or staggered. Here are some examples below:
Working with 3 pieces of wall art:
You can have your wall art side by side, stacked on top of each other, or staggered. You can have your arrangement symmetrically placed or asymmetrically placed. Another idea is having a central theme to your images or have them vary for some contrast. For example, you could have all bold and bright colored images, muted colors with bright colored images, or a mixture of black and white with colored imagery. It is entirely up to you.

How to Hang Proper Portraits
Portraits are a great way to show off your family and the ones you love! Pictures are able to freeze a time you can never get back and after taking them, you will want to see them again and again! So how should you hang your artwork? Personally, I think this really depends on the size of your home and your style.
If you have a huge home and have lots of space you are able to have lots of huge pieces of artwork throughout your home. If your home is smaller, you may have only a few larger pieces in your home. Some people prefer to have multiple smaller images in their homes. The whole idea is to get a mix of what will add to your home and bring a smile to your face!
One of the things you will want to do is have an idea of what your imagery will look like on your walls! At Wise Images Photography, we have a program which will allow us to show you what your images will look like on your walls before you buy. You simply take a photograph of your wall and then we can arrange images on your wall according to the size you desire.
There are general “rules” on how to correctly size your artwork with your room depending on the furniture and the layout of the room.
Rule one: Go big!
Sometimes people are afraid to go with one giant signature piece for the room. They are afraid it will cramp the room up. If you really like something, you will make it happen. If you go too small your artwork will not look correct on the wall.
Here is a diagram using a couch as an example to show the general rules.
Rule two: Hang artwork at eye level.
You really want to see portraits/artwork at eye level so you can make connections with them. If they are hung too high you can’t see them as easily. You will want to have the center of your artwork around 57 to 60 inches high from the ground. Just like anything there are going to be other factors which will come into play, such as the height of your walls. If you have walls which are very low or very high we can move things around in our program so you get an idea of what your artwork will look like for your space.
Rule three: Grouping photographs should be about 5 to 6 inches apart.
When you group smaller images together you want them to have a connection with each other. You will want to make sure you don’t space them out too far apart or they will look as if they don’t go with each other. The general rule of thumb is have them spaced 5 to 6 inches apart. You can really have some fun with groupings. You can do all the same sizes or mix and match. You can still follow the rules of placement with multiple images.

Coordinate your outfits together, not match each other completely. You can mix some patterns together but too many patterns and colors can cause you all to clash and distract from the photograph. Please match your socks with your outfit!
This is one of my favorite photographs! This image shows how they coordinated their outfits without completely matching. If they wanted they could have used another color to provide a little more variety.
Our eyes are drawn to the brightest part of a picture so please stay away from white. Look for a color which complements your skin tone and doesn’t match your fur babies’ fur. This will add some contrast in the photograph.
Layering, wearing textures, or accessorizing with a scarf, jewelry, or hat can make for more interesting photos. If you want to include a hat, I would wear it for the last shots so you don’t mess up your hair unless you want it for the whole shoot.
Choose your clothing carefully. Clothing which is low cut, too short or too sheer can affect your photos. Keep in mind you may be kneeling, bending, or even laying with your pet to get the best shots.
Bring a towel to pat yourself so you don’t shine too much! Florida gets a little warm!
Ladies I would get your hair trimmed and/or colored a week or two before the session. Ladies do I hear a mani & pedi in your future? :) Gentlemen can usually get away with their cut closer to the session. Spray tans should be done a couple of weeks before your session. Be careful of food choices before your session to prevent staining your teeth.
